Naeem bin Abdullah Mujmir, may Allah have mercy on him, says that he climbed onto the roof of the mosque and reached the presence of Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, while he was performing ablution. He began to wash the part of his arms above the elbows, then turned towards me and said: The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, on the Day of Resurrection, the foreheads and hands and feet of my Ummah will be shining due to the traces of ablution, so whoever among you wishes to lengthen his brightness, let him do so." Naeem said: I could not know whether the words "so whoever among you wishes to lengthen his brightness, let him do so" are from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, or from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Hafiz Ibn Qayyim has considered these words to be interpolated (mudraj), and Shaykh al-Albani also inclines towards this view; see: Irwa’ al-Ghalil: 94. Hafiz Ibn Hajar said: Ten Companions narrated this hadith, and none of them mentioned the words, “Whoever among you can lengthen his whiteness (ghurra), let him do so,” and among the students of Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu, only Nu‘aym al-Mujmir narrated it. (Fath al-Bari: 1/236) And even he had hesitation regarding these words.
Regarding ((فَمَنِاسْتَطَاعَمِنْکُمْأَنیُطِیْلَغُرَّتَہُفَلْیَفْعَلْ۔)), some scholars are of the opinion that these words are interpolated (mudraj) and not part of the marfu‘ (prophetic) hadith. However, washing beyond the elbows and ankles is established from the action of Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu himself, and through him, it is also established as marfu‘. In Sahih Muslim: 246, it is mentioned that Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu, while performing ablution (wudu), washed his arms along with his elbows and his legs along with his shins, and said: “This is how I saw the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam performing ablution.” This supports the marfu‘ status of the aforementioned phrase, and washing the arms along with the elbows and the legs along with the shins is permissible and correct.
