Brief Explanation
Benefits: … "Surad" (mumawwala) is a bird that eats insects and preys on sparrows; it is also called "latoora." The killing of ants and honeybees would be purposeless, therefore killing them has been prohibited. However, if they are causing harm, then it is permissible to kill them in order to protect oneself from their harm. In this matter, there is a clear text regarding ants. As for the issue of the hoopoe (hudhud) and the small bird (mumawwala), remember that when the killing of an animal is prohibited, and this is not due to its sanctity or harm, then the reason for this ruling is that the animal is forbidden (haram) to consume.
