It is narrated from Sayyida Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) that one morning it seemed that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was feeling heavy. Someone asked him and said: O Messenger of Allah! Why do you seem unwell today? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: Actually, Jibreel (peace be upon him) had promised to meet me, but he has neither met me nor has he ever broken a promise before. In any case, Jibreel (peace be upon him) did not come that night, nor did he come the next two nights. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) considered a puppy under one of our beds to be the cause. He then ordered it to be removed and had water sprinkled on that spot. Just then, Jibreel (peace be upon him) arrived. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: You had promised to meet me, but you did not come? He said: Yes, we do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture. From that day, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the killing of dogs, (and such strictness was observed in this matter that) when permission was sought regarding the dog of a small garden, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would also order it to be killed.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: ... "Nadad" refers to such a bedstead upon which layers of cloth have been placed.
It is mentioned in Sahih Muslim that the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) would order the killing of the dog of a small orchard, but would leave the dog of a large orchard. The distinction between a large and small orchard is because the protection of a small orchard is not so difficult. However, safeguarding a large orchard from all sides becomes somewhat easier with the help of a dog. (Abdullah Rafiq)
