Narrated by Sayyiduna Sufyan bin Abi Zuhair رضي الله عنه, a companion belonging to the Shanou’ah tribe, that he related this hadith at the door of the mosque: The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم said: Whoever keeps a dog that does not serve to guard crops or livestock, then a qirat will be deducted from his deeds every day. Someone asked: Did you yourself hear this hadith from the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم? He replied: Yes, by the Lord of this mosque.
