It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that Jibreel (peace be upon him) had promised the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to come at a fixed time, but he was delayed. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went outside, Jibreel (peace be upon him) was standing at the door. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: I kept waiting for you according to your promise. Sayyiduna Jibreel (peace be upon him) said: There is a dog in the house, and we do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture. In fact, there was a puppy under the bed of Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered it to be taken out, so it was taken out. Then, when morning came, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the killing of dogs, and they began to be killed.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … From this hadith it is understood that in a house where there is a picture or a dog, the angel does not enter. Today, both of these things are widespread in the homes of Muslims. Keeping a dog out of necessity, such as for protection, hunting, etc., is exempted from this ruling. Perhaps this is the reason why blessings and mercy are gradually disappearing from homes today. The angels of mercy do not enter; otherwise, the recording angels, the guardian angels, and the angel of death do enter every home. By “picture” is meant the image of a living being (dhi ruh), whether it is of a human or an animal. Exempted from this are those pictures which are for unavoidable purposes and for which there is no alternative, such as for passports, identity cards, licenses, etc. However, it is better that even these be kept in a secure or closed place and not displayed.
