Abu Sa’ib says: I came to Sayyiduna Abu Sa’id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) and was sitting with him when I felt something moving under his bed. I saw that it was a snake, so I stood up. Sayyiduna Abu Sa’id (may Allah be pleased with him) said: What is the matter? I said: There is a snake here. He said: What do you intend to do? I said: To kill it. He pointed towards a house in front of his own and said: My nephew used to live in that house. When he returned from the Battle of Ahzab, he sought permission from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to go to his house. He had recently gotten married. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted him permission and instructed him to go armed. When he came to his house, he saw his wife standing at the door. Out of jealousy, he pointed his spear towards her, but she said: Do not be hasty, first see what made me come out. When he entered the house, he saw a repulsive kind of snake. The young man struck it with his spear and tried to drag it out with the spear. The snake was writhing. I do not know whether the man died first or the snake. Then the people of his tribe came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: Pray to Allah to return our companion to us. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said twice: Seek forgiveness for your companion. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Some individuals from among the jinn have accepted Islam. When you see them, warn them three times, that is, for three days. If they still appear after three days, then if you wish to kill them, you may do so.
