Narrated by Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood among us and said: By Him besides whom there is no deity! The blood of a person who testifies that Allah alone is the true deity and I am Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, is not lawful, except in three cases: (1) One who abandons Islam and separates from the community, (2) a married adulterer, and (3) one who is killed in retaliation for a life.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … It is understood that Islam commands the killing of three individuals: the apostate, the married adulterer, and the one who intentionally kills a Muslim. However, the implementation of these hudud (prescribed punishments) is connected to the Islamic ruler and the caliph; no individual may carry out this action on their own.
