Hadith 6451

Narrated by Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whenever a soul is killed unjustly, a share of its unjust blood is also upon Adam's first son, because he was the first person who initiated the practice of unjust killing.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In Surah al-Ma'idah, the incident of Habil and Qabil is mentioned. Qabil was the first person who committed unjust killing; since he initiated this crime, for every criminal of this kind, Qabil also bears a share of the sin. From this incident, we should learn that we must not become the cause of any evil deed; rather, by promoting good deeds, we should make them a means of ongoing charity (sadaqah jariyah) for ourselves.
