Hadith 6442

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked the people on the occasion of the Farewell Pilgrimage: Which day is the most sacred? They said: This very day of ours. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Which month is the most sacred? They said: This very month of Dhu al-Hijjah of ours. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Which city is the most sacred? They said: This very city of ours. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then indeed your blood and your wealth are as inviolable among you as the sanctity of this day of yours, in this month of yours, in this city of yours.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … According to the pure Shari‘ah, the sanctity and inviolability of a Muslim’s blood, honor, and wealth was of the highest degree; yet, the individuals of our society have trampled upon this very sanctity to an equal extent. Today, the dignity of a Muslim is not found in his Islam, but rather, all honor and self-respect are considered to be hidden in wealth and riches. The one who possesses dirhams and dinars is accorded respect, and smiles are exchanged with him. We should ensure that, in our standards, consideration for Islam comes first, and only then should other matters be given preference.
