It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Wala’ (the right of inheritance and loyalty) belongs to the one who sets free.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Walā’ is the bond of inheritance through which the emancipator or his agnatic relatives (ʿaṣabah bi-nafsih) become the heirs of the emancipated person. The emancipator and his agnatic relatives are called ʿaṣabah sababiyyah. When, after the distribution to the holders of fixed shares (aṣḥāb al-furūḍ), some wealth remains, or if there are no holders of fixed shares at all, then the agnatic heirs by lineage (ʿaṣabah nasabiyyah) inherit. If there are no agnatic heirs by lineage, then the agnatic heirs by cause (ʿaṣabah sababiyyah) become entitled to the estate.
This walā’ is a right similar to that of lineage (nasab); therefore, just as lineage cannot be bought or sold, nor can it be gifted, so too walā’ cannot be bought, sold, or gifted.
