Hadith 6377

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when Sayyiduna Ghailan bin Salamah Thaqafi (may Allah be pleased with him) accepted Islam, he had ten wives. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Select four wives from among them." During the era of Farooq (i.e., the caliphate of Umar), Sayyiduna Ghailan (may Allah be pleased with him) divorced all his wives and distributed all his wealth among his sons. When this news reached Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), he summoned him and said: "I think that Satan, having heard the news of your death from the angels, has put this thought into your heart, and now perhaps only a little of your life remains. By Allah! Either you return to your wives and give them back their wealth, or I myself will make those wives your heirs and will order that your grave be stoned as the grave of Abu Righal was stoned."
