Hadith 6372

It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that a slave of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) fell from a date-palm and died. He had some inheritance, but neither children nor relatives. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding his inheritance: "Give it to someone from his settlement."

Brief Explanation
Benefits: ... The man of the village has no connection with the inheritance, nor does he become a permanent heir. In reality, when the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) saw that there was no heir present for him, he decided that this inheritance should be given to someone from his village. This decision of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is equivalent to depositing the inheritance into the public treasury (bayt al-mal), meaning that the ruler will have the right to decide as he wishes.
