Hadith 6335

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man asked the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I have no wealth, but there is an orphan under my guardianship, so can I take from his wealth? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You may eat from your orphan’s wealth, but do not be extravagant in it, nor wasteful, nor one who accumulates wealth, nor one who saves your own wealth. Or he said: nor one who saves your own wealth through his wealth.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … From this hadith it is understood that a guardian who is working for the increase and betterment of an orphan’s wealth may take compensation from that wealth. However, this wage should be according to the customary (ma‘ruf) manner. It is better that such a guardian have his wage determined by two individuals from the community or family who are known for justice, fairness, and wisdom, so that his soul is protected from making various excuses and arguments. The remaining instructions have already been mentioned in the hadith itself.
