It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, had designated the pasture of Naqi’ specifically for horses. Hammad says: I asked, did he, peace and blessings be upon him, designate it for his own horses? He replied: No, he designated it for the horses of the Muslims.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … It is understood that the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) dedicated a pasture as a waqf (endowment) for public welfare, from which people benefited without distinction. The caliph of the Muslims has the right to do such a thing. In some rural areas, it has been observed that there is no place for the grazing of livestock, and all the fodder must be arranged at home. This increases the owners’ expenses and also requires much effort. Wealthy people in such areas should purchase one or two acres of land and plant various trees in it; grass and the like will grow on their own. People will then be able to cut wood for fuel and also graze their livestock. This will be a great act of charity. However, it is necessary for the concerned people to be sincere, and it should not happen that the descendants of those who established it later begin to remind others of their favor.
