It is narrated from Sayyiduna Muawiyah bin Haydah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! By Allah, before coming to you, I had sworn more oaths than these that I would neither come to you nor accept your religion." The narrator Bahz joined both his palms together to indicate this. In another narration, it is: "Until I had sworn as many oaths as the number of my fingers that I would neither come to you nor accept your religion." In any case, now I have come to you, while I am a person who understands nothing except those matters which Allah Almighty and His Messenger will make me understand. Now, I beseech you by Allah's essence, tell me: With what has our Lord sent you to us?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "With Islam." He said: "O Messenger of Allah! What is the sign of Islam, what is Islam?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That you say: I have submitted my face (i.e., myself) to Allah and I have turned away (from the religion of polytheism), then you establish prayer, pay zakat, and every Muslim is forbidden to another Muslim."
