Hasan Basri narrates that there was an acquaintance between Iyad bin Hammad Mujashi'i and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) before the Prophethood. Then, when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was granted Prophethood, Iyad presented a gift to him. I think it was in the form of a camel, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) refused to accept it and said: We do not accept gifts from polytheists. Ibn Awn said: What is meant by the zabad of polytheists? Hasan Basri said: Their gifts and offerings.
