It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that when food was brought from somewhere other than the house of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, he would ask about it. If it was said that it was a gift, he, peace and blessings be upon him, would eat it. And if it was said that it was charity, he, peace and blessings be upon him, would say: "You people eat it," and he, peace and blessings be upon him, would not eat it himself.
