Hadith 6258

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: If I am given the upper part of the meat (the portion above the shank) as a gift, I will accept it, and if I am invited to the thinner part of the shank, I will accept it.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In this hadith, there is mention of the noble character, humility, compassion, and kindness of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam towards people. It is understood from this that one should not consider the quantity or quality of the gift given by the giver, or the hospitality of the host; rather, one should accept such a person’s sincerity and express happiness before him, pray for him, and if possible, reciprocate as well. In this era, for people of wealth and luxury, acting upon such ahadith is quite a difficult task; they desire that those who invite them or give them gifts should be of their own standard. If they are invited, it should be in a lavish manner, and if they are given a gift, it should be something very expensive. Such people should not be heedless of the lifestyle of the leader of the Prophets, and whatever does not suit their temperament, they should accept it in a good manner in the light of the Shari‘ah.
