Hadith 623

Nazzal bin Sabrah (may Allah have mercy on him) says: A vessel was brought to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was at Rahbah. He took a handful of water from it, rinsed his mouth, put water into his nose, and wiped his face, arms, and head with it. While standing, he drank some of the water, and then he said: "This is the ablution of a person who has not lost his state of ablution. I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) doing it in this manner."

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … It appears that the purpose of a person who is already in a state of ablution (wudu) performing ablution in this manner is to attain freshness, just as it has been observed among some people in our region that if their ablution remains valid, they use the miswak (tooth-stick) and merely wash their hands and face.
