It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) and his companions passed by a woman, and she slaughtered a goat for them and prepared food. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) returned, the woman said: We have prepared food for you, so please come inside and eat. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) and his companions went inside. The noble companions (may Allah be pleased with them) would not begin eating until the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) started eating. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) took a morsel, but he could not swallow it. He said: This goat was slaughtered without the owner's permission. The woman said: O Prophet of Allah! We and the family of Banu Sa'd have informal relations with each other (and do not feel any aversion towards one another), so we keep taking from them and they from us.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Although there is allowance for the permissibility of such an animal, as is evident from the fact that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam ordered it to be fed to the slaves, yet it does not befit people of high status to consume such a thing. This is because informal gestures are not sufficient to remove something from the ownership of its owner; rather, there must be an explicit expression of consent.
