It is narrated from Sayyiduna Awf bin Malik Ashja'i, may Allah be pleased with him, who says: We participated in a battle in which our commander was Sayyiduna Amr bin Aas, may Allah be pleased with him. It happened that we were afflicted with severe hunger. We passed by a people who had slaughtered camels. I (Awf) said to them: If you let me eat from these, I can prepare the meat, etc., for you. They said: Fine. So I did their work and they gave me something to eat. I took it to Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, but he refused to eat. Then I went to Sayyiduna Abu Ubaidah bin Jarrah, may Allah be pleased with him, but he also refused to eat. Then, when on the occasion of the conquest of Makkah I was sent to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, he asked: Are you the ones with the camels? I said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah! The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, did not say anything more than this.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … It is possible that the reason why Sayyiduna Umar and Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah (radi Allahu anhuma) did not eat was that Sayyiduna Awf (radi Allahu anhu) did not show patience in bearing hunger. In one narration, it is mentioned that he told Sayyiduna Umar (radi Allahu anhu) the entire detail, so he said: "Asma‘uka qad ta‘ajjalta ajraka." … "I hear regarding you that you have hastened your reward." Then, when Sayyiduna Awf (radi Allahu anhu) went to give the glad tidings of victory and success to the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) did not object to what he had done. In any case, Sayyiduna Awf (radi Allahu anhu) had done a permissible act.
