Hadith 6093

وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا ضَرَرَ وَلَا ضِرَارَ وَلِلرَّجُلِ أَنْ يَجْعَلَ خَشَبَةً فِي حَائِطِ جَارِهِ وَالطَّرِيقُ الْمِيتَاءُ سَبْعَةُ أَذْرُعٍ
It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (It is not permissible) to cause harm to your brother by diminishing his rights, nor is it permissible to cause greater harm than the harm received. And a person has the right to place a beam or the like on his neighbor’s wall, and the passageway for coming and going should be left at seven hands wide.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: ... "Al-Mīṭā’" is on the pattern of "Mif‘āl" from the root "Atā–Ya’tī" and the "mīm" is additional. By "al-ṭarīq al-mīṭā’" is meant a major road, where there is frequent passage of people; some have also interpreted it as an open road or a populated road.
