It is narrated from Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) that two men from the Ansar brought a case of inheritance to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), while the traces of that inheritance had disappeared and they had no evidence. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I am also a human being. You bring your disputes to me for judgment. It is possible that one of you, being more familiar with the intricacies of his argument, presents it in a better way, and then I decide in his favor based on what I hear. (So listen:) If I decide in favor of someone, granting him a right that belongs to his brother, then he should not take it, for in such a case I am cutting off a piece of Hellfire for him, and on the Day of Resurrection, he will come with it blazing on his neck. Upon hearing this, both of them began to weep, and each said: My right is for my brother. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Now that you are saying this, then go and divide it in such a way that you seek the truth, then draw lots, and each of you should forgive his brother.
