Yusuf bin Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I went to Sayyiduna Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was suffering from the illness of death. He asked me: "Nephew! What made you intend to come to this city? What brought you here?" I said: "Nothing in particular, I have only come because of the relationship that existed between you and my father." Sayyiduna Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "This is a bad time to lie. I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Whoever performs ablution and performs it well, then stands and prays two or four rak'ahs, and in them remembers Allah well and shows humility, then asks Allah for forgiveness, he will be forgiven.'"

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … These ahadith indicate the virtue of performing ablution (wudu), going towards the mosques, offering prayer therein, waiting for the prayer, and performing prayer after ablution. If these ahadith are firmly remembered, not only does one’s eagerness for action increase, but a special delight is also attained at the time of performing the deed.
Abu Darda (radi Allahu anhu) is saying this at a time when the signs of death were apparent to him, and according to the narrator, he passed away in this very illness. Thus, he wishes to convey that this is not a time for lying. Therefore, I wish to narrate a truthful hadith. (Abdullah Rafiq)
