Hadith 6067

Narrated by Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Delaying the repayment of a debt by a wealthy person is injustice, and when you are referred to a wealthy person (for payment), then accept the referral, and there are not two transactions in one transaction.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Consider the example of the first reference: Zahid has to take a loan of one thousand rupees from Uthman, and Uthman has to take the same amount from Ibrahim. Now, Uthman says to Zahid, "The one thousand rupees you have to take from me, take it from Ibrahim," while Ibrahim is also wealthy. In such a situation, Zahid should accept Uthman's statement and absolve him from giving or taking the loan.

Definition of Reference (Hawalah): … The debtor transferring his creditor to another party.

A detailed discussion regarding the prohibition of two transactions in one deal has already been presented earlier.
