Hadith 6065

(Second chain) The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When an animal is pawned, its fodder will be the responsibility of the one who takes it as collateral, and the milk of a milking animal may be drunk, and the one who drinks the milk or rides the animal will bear its expenses.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The one who gives something in pledge is called the "rahin," and the one with whom it is deposited as collateral is called the "murtahin."

Now, the question arises: Can the murtahin derive any benefit from the item held in pledge or not? The summary of the answer to this question is as follows:

If the pledged item does not require any expenditure, such as a house, bicycle, motorcycle, or other goods, then under no circumstances is it permissible for the murtahin to derive any benefit from it. However, if the pledged item does require expenditure, such as a goat or a horse, then the murtahin may benefit from it to the extent of the expenses he incurs on it, as is evident from the aforementioned ahadith.
