عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ سُفْيَانَ الثَّقَفِيِّ أَنَّهُمْ غَزَوْا غَزْوَةَ السَّلَاسِلِ فَفَاتَهُمُ الْغَزْوُ فَرَابَطُوا ثُمَّ رَجَعُوا إِلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ وَعِنْدَهُ أَبُو أَيُّوبَ وَعُقْبَةُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ فَقَالَ عَاصِمٌ: يَا أَبَا أَيُّوبَ! فَاتَنَا الْغَزْوُ الْعَامَ وَقَدْ أُخْبِرْنَا أَنَّ مَنْ صَلَّى فِي الْمَسْجِدِ (وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ: فِي الْمَسَاجِدِ الْأَرْبَعَةِ) غُفِرَ لَهُ ذَنْبُهُ، فَقَالَ: ابْنَ أَخِي! أَدُلُّكَ عَلَى أَيْسَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ؟ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: ((مَنْ تَوَضَّأَ كَمَا أُمِرَ وَصَلَّى كَمَا أُمِرَ غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ عَمَلٍ)) أَكَذَاكَ يَا عُقْبَةُ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ
Asim bin Sufyan Thaqafi, may Allah have mercy on him, says: We went for the expedition of Salasil, but the expedition did not take place, so they kept watch on the frontier and then returned to Sayyiduna Muawiyah, may Allah be pleased with him, while Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub, may Allah be pleased with him, and Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir, may Allah be pleased with him, were also sitting with him. Asim said: "O Abu Ayyub! This year we missed out on jihad, while we have been told that whoever prays in four mosques, his sins will be forgiven." He said: "Nephew! Shall I not tell you an easier deed than this? Indeed, I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: 'Whoever performs ablution as he has been commanded, and prays as he has been commanded to pray, his previous sins will be forgiven.'" Uqbah! Is this not the same hadith? He said: "Yes, indeed."
