Hadith 6048

عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ أَظَلَّ اللَّهُ فِي ظِلِّهِ يَوْمَ لَا ظِلَّ إِلَّا ظِلُّهُ مَنْ أَنْظَرَ مُعْسِرًا أَوْ تَرَكَ لِغَارِمٍ
Narrated from Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty will grant shade to that person on the Day when there will be no other shade, who gives respite to a debtor in difficulty or forgives the one who owes him.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … However, in this chapter, authentic (sahih) hadiths are found, for example: It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu al-Yasar radi Allahu anhu that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Whoever grants respite to a debtor in difficulty or forgives him, Allah will shade him in His shade.” (Sahih Muslim: 3006, and the wording is from Ibn Hibban)
Similarly, it is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Whoever grants respite to a debtor in difficulty or forgives him, Allah will shade him on the Day of Resurrection under the shade of His Throne, on the day when there will be no shade except His shade.”
How great is this felicity, that due to granting respite to a debtor in difficulty or forgiving him, one attains the shade of Allah Ta’ala in the plain of gathering (on the Day of Judgment), while in that field the heat will be blazing and the sun will be at a distance of one mile.
The command of Allah Ta’ala is: {وَاِنْ کَانَ ذُوْ عُسْرَۃٍ فَنَظِرَۃٌ اِلیٰ مَیْسَرَۃٍ وَاَنْ تَصَدَّقُوْاخَیْرٌلَّکُمْ اِنْ کُنْْتُمْ تَعْلَمُوْنَ} … “And if the debtor is in difficulty, then grant him respite until ease; and if you remit it as charity, that is better for you, if you only knew.” (Surah al-Baqarah: 280)
