Narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I am closer to the believers than their own selves, so whoever leaves behind wealth, it will be for his relatives and heirs, and whoever leaves behind small children or (a burden of debt, etc.) and passes away, I am responsible for him.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The meaning of the statement that the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is closer to the believers than their own selves is that when he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam calls a Muslim towards something, while the person’s own self inclines towards something else, then he should abandon the desire of his own self and accept the command of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, because therein lies eternal salvation, whereas fulfilling the desires of the self in such a situation leads to destruction.
Muslim rulers should be mindful of their responsibilities. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to pay off the debts of the deceased and support their children, but now the situation has reversed: whichever ruler gets the opportunity, he seeks to plunder the wealth and national treasury of his subjects.
