Abu Saba’ says: I bought a she-camel from the house of Wathila bin Asqa’ (may Allah be pleased with him). When I took it outside, Sayyiduna Wathila (may Allah be pleased with him) ran after me, dragging his cloak, and reached me and said: “O servant of Allah! Have you bought this she-camel?” I said: “Yes.” He said: “Did the one you bought it from inform you of its defect?” I said: “What defect does it have? Apparently, it is fat and looks healthy.” He said: “Well, tell me, did you buy it for travel or for its meat?” I said: “I want to ride it and perform Hajj on it.” He said: “There is a hole in its foot.” The owner of the she-camel said: “May Allah set you right, what do you want from me now? You are spoiling it for me!” He (Wathila) said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: ‘It is not lawful for anyone to sell a defective thing except that he makes its defect clear. It is not lawful for a person who knows (of a defect) except that he explains it.’”
