حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ حَدَّثَنَا شُعَيْبٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ حَدَّثَنِي عُمَارَةُ بْنُ خُزَيْمَةَ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ أَنَّ عَمَّهُ حَدَّثَهُ وَهُوَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ابْتَاعَ فَرَسًا مِنْ أَعْرَابِيٍّ فَاسْتَتْبَعَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِيَقْضِيَهُ ثَمَنَ فَرَسِهِ فَأَسْرَعَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَشْيَ وَأَبْطَأَ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ فَطَفِقَ رِجَالٌ يَعْتَرِضُونَ الْأَعْرَابِيَّ فَيُسَاوِمُونَ بِالْفَرَسِ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ابْتَاعَهُ حَتَّى زَادَ بَعْضُهُمُ الْأَعْرَابِيَّ فِي السَّوْمِ عَلَى ثَمَنِ الْفَرَسِ الَّذِي ابْتَاعَهُ بِهِ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَنَادَى الْأَعْرَابِيُّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ إِنْ كُنْتَ مُبْتَاعًا هَذَا الْفَرَسَ فَابْتَعْهُ وَإِلَّا بِعْتُهُ فَقَامَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ سَمِعَ نِدَاءَ الْأَعْرَابِيِّ فَقَالَ أَوَلَيْسَ قَدِ ابْتَعْتُهُ مِنْكَ قَالَ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ لَا وَاللَّهِ مَا بِعْتُكَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَلْ قَدِ ابْتَعْتُهُ مِنْكَ فَطَفِقَ النَّاسُ يَلُوذُونَ بِالنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالْأَعْرَابِيِّ وَهُمَا يَتَرَاجَعَانِ فَطَفِقَ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ يَقُولُ هَلُمَّ شَهِيدًا يَشْهَدُ أَنِّي بَايَعْتُكَ فَمَنْ جَاءَ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ قَالَ لِلْأَعْرَابِيِّ وَيْلَكَ إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمْ يَكُنْ لِيَقُولَ إِلَّا حَقًّا حَتَّى جَاءَ خُزَيْمَةُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَاسْتَمَعَ لِمُرَاجَعَةِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَمُرَاجَعَةِ الْأَعْرَابِيِّ فَطَفِقَ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ يَقُولُ هَلُمَّ شَهِيدًا يَشْهَدُ أَنِّي بَايَعْتُكَ قَالَ خُزَيْمَةُ أَنَا أَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ قَدْ بَايَعْتَهُ فَأَقْبَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى خُزَيْمَةَ فَقَالَ بِمَ تَشْهَدُ فَقَالَ بِتَصْدِيقِكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَجَعَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ شَهَادَةَ خُزَيْمَةَ بِشَهَادَةِ رَجُلَيْنِ
It is narrated from ‘Umara bin Khuzaymah al-Ansari, who says: My companion uncle related that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) bought a horse from a Bedouin. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told him to follow behind so that he could pay the price of the horse, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) himself started walking quickly, while the Bedouin was slow-paced. Thus, a distance came between them. Meanwhile, people started bidding for the horse from the Bedouin, not knowing that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had already bought the horse. One man offered a price higher than what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had agreed upon. Seeing this, the Bedouin called out loudly to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Muhammad! If you want to buy this horse, then buy it, otherwise I will sell it to someone else. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stopped upon hearing his voice and said: I have already bought it from you. But he said: By Allah! I have not sold it to you. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Why not, I have bought it from you. Meanwhile, people gathered around the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the Bedouin, while their dispute continued. The Bedouin said: Alright, bring a witness who will testify that you have bought it. The Muslims who were present there said to the Bedouin: Woe to you, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) only speaks the truth. At that moment, Sayyiduna Khuzaymah (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived. The Bedouin again said: Bring a witness who will testify that I have sold you this horse. Sayyiduna Khuzaymah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I bear witness that you have sold this horse to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Upon hearing this, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned to Sayyiduna Khuzaymah (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: How are you bearing witness? He replied: O Messenger of Allah! Because of your truthfulness. Thus, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) considered the testimony of Sayyiduna Khuzaymah (may Allah be pleased with him) equal to the testimony of two men.
