Hadith 59

عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: ((الْإِسْلَامُ عَلَانِيَةٌ وَالْإِيمَانُ فِي الْقَلْبِ)) قَالَ: ثُمَّ يُشِيرُ بِيَدِهِ إِلَى صَدْرِهِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ قَالَ: ثُمَّ يَقُولُ: ((التَّقْوَى هَاهُنَا))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Islam is an outward (manifest) matter related to the limbs, and Iman is a hidden matter related to the heart." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) pointed towards his chest three times and then said: "Taqwa is here."
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The foundation of taqwa (God-consciousness) and piety is indeed the heart, but when taqwa is established in the heart, the limbs and bodily organs cannot remain unaffected by it; that is, the necessary result of taqwa being present in the heart is that the inclination of the entire being also turns towards virtuous deeds.
