Uthman bin Abdullah bin Suraqah says: I asked Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) about the sale of fruits. He said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the sale of fruits until the fear of calamity had passed. I asked: And when does that happen? He said: When the Thurayya star appears.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In the narration reported by Abu Dawud from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “When the star rises in the morning, calamity is lifted from every town.” Thuraiya (Pleiades) is a star; at the beginning of summer, this star rises in the morning. At that time, there is intense heat in Hijaz and the fruits begin to ripen. The main intent of this narration is the ripening of fruits; the rising of the Thuraiya star has been designated as a sign of ripening.
