Narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There was a man who had never done any good deed, however, he used to have business dealings with people. He had instructed his agent that whoever is able to pay easily, take the payment from him, and whoever is in difficulty, let it go; perhaps Allah Almighty will also forgive us. When he died, Allah Almighty asked him: Have you ever done any good deed? He said: No, but there is one thing—I used to deal with people, and when I sent my agent to collect debts, I had instructed him that whoever is able to pay easily, take it from him, and whoever is in difficulty, let it go; perhaps Allah Almighty will forgive us. Allah Almighty said: I have also forgiven you.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In these blessed hadiths, wherever gentleness has been commanded, at present every trader, shopkeeper, creditor, and rightful claimant is almost entirely deprived of observing this gentleness, except whom Allah wills. It is possible that there may be someone who observes it, but the public has not seen such a person. In every interaction between creditor and debtor, one observes harshness and bitterness. Because of this, tension has entered our temperaments and our lives have become devoid of blessings.
Honorable readers! Some individuals are naturally gentle; if they make some effort, their temperament can easily be brought in line with the Shariah. However, those with a harsh temperament will have to work considerably to acquire gentleness in accordance with the Shariah, and in every such matter, they will have to deliberately conform their temperament to the Shariah. As a result, neither will there be restlessness due to delayed debts, nor will matters come to a halt because of forgiving. Such individuals should firmly establish this belief that Allah Ta'ala is the Owner of the means of sustenance; we ourselves are not.
