Hadith 573

عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا لَا أَعُدُّ وَلَا أُحْصِي يَسْتَاكُ وَهُوَ صَائِمٌ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna ‘Amir bin Rabi‘ah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: “I have seen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) using the miswak while fasting countless and innumerable times.”
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Imam Shafi‘i has deemed it permissible for the fasting person to use the miswak at the beginning and end of the day, whereas Imam Ahmad has considered it disliked to use the miswak in the latter part of the day. However, there is no reason for considering it disliked.
