Hadith 5703

عَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ عَنْ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَتَعَوَّذُ مِنْ خَمْسٍ مِنَ الْبُخْلِ وَالْجُبْنِ وَفِتْنَةِ الصَّدْرِ وَعَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ وَسُوءِ الْعَمَلِ
(Second chain) It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to seek refuge from these five things: miserliness, cowardice, the trial of the chest, the punishment of the grave, and evil deeds.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … It appears that the words "su’ al-‘amal" are a scribe’s error, because in the narration of Abu Dawud, the words are "su’ al-‘umur." Similarly, in another narration of Abu Dawud, in the narration of Ibn Majah, and in the narration of the first chain of the aforementioned hadith, the words are "arzal al-‘umur."
