Hadith 5670

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wanted to say something, while Sayyidah herself was praying. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyidah: Be sure to observe the completion (of prayer). Or the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said something similar. When she finished and asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about this instruction, he said: Recite this supplication:

“O Allah! Indeed, I ask You for all good, immediate and delayed, that which I know of and that which I do not know of, and I seek refuge in You from all evil, immediate and delayed, that which I know of and that which I do not know of. And I ask You for Paradise and for every word or deed that brings one closer to it, and I seek refuge in You from the Fire and from every word or deed that brings one closer to it. And I ask You for every good that Your servant and Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) asked You for, and I seek refuge in You from every evil from which Your servant and Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) sought refuge. And I ask You that whatever decree You have made for me, make its outcome good.” (In another wording: “And I ask You to make every decree You decree for me good.”)

(O Allah! Indeed, I ask You for every kind of good, whether it comes soon or later, whether I know of it or not, and I seek refuge in You from every kind of evil, whether it comes soon or later, whether I know of it or not. I ask You for Paradise and for every word or deed that brings one closer to it. I seek refuge in You from the Fire and from every word or deed that brings one closer to it. Rather, I ask You for every good that Your servant and Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) asked You for, and I seek refuge in You from every evil from which Your servant and Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) sought refuge. And I ask You that whatever decision You have made for me, make its outcome good.) In one narration, the last sentence is: I ask You that whatever decision You have made for me, place good in it.
