حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ قَالَ: ثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ثَنَا غَيْلَانُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى الْأَشْعَرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: دَخَلْتُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يَسْتَاكُ وَهُوَ وَاضِعٌ طَرْفَ السِّوَاكِ عَلَى لِسَانِهِ يَسْتَنُّ إِلَى فَوْقَ، فَوَصَفَ حَمَّادٌ كَأَنَّهُ يَرْفَعُ سِوَاكَهُ، قَالَ حَمَّادٌ: وَوَصَفَهُ لَنَا غَيْلَانُ قَالَ: كَانَ يَسْتَنُّ طُولًا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I entered upon the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was using the miswak, and the end of the miswak was on his tongue and he was brushing upwards. Hammad (may Allah have mercy on him) described this manner as if the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was lifting his miswak, then Hammad (may Allah have mercy on him) said that Ghailan (may Allah have mercy on him) described to us that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to brush with the miswak lengthwise.
