Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates from his father, Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), that he came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! I am your uncle, now I have become old and the time of my death has drawn near, so teach me something through which Allah Almighty may benefit me. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Abbas! You are my uncle, but I cannot suffice for you before Allah Almighty. However, you should ask your Lord for forgiveness and well-being in this world and the Hereafter. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) repeated this three times. Then, when he came at the end of the year, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said the same thing again.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Sayyiduna Abbas radi Allahu anhu was the uncle of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, but even such a sacred relationship will be of no avail in matters of the Hereafter; there, the matter will be based on one’s own good and bad deeds. Forgiveness refers to the pardoning of sins, and well-being (afiyah) refers to safety from illnesses, trials, and weakness of faith.
