Hadith 5605

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Hearts are like vessels, and some hearts are more receptive to remembrance than others. So, O people! When you ask Allah Almighty, do so with the certainty that your supplication will be accepted. Indeed, Allah Almighty does not accept the supplication of a servant who prays with a heedless and inattentive heart.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In this hadith, two etiquettes of supplication (du'a) have been mentioned: (1) One should have firm conviction that Allah Ta'ala will certainly accept the supplication being made to Him; and (2) supplication should be regarded as the purpose of life, and during it, one should not display indifference, lack of heart, laziness, sloth, or heedlessness, because such behavior is contrary to the status, rank, majesty, and might of Allah Ta'ala. One should call upon Allah Ta'ala with complete attention and concentration, and this is not possible until one knows the translation of the prescribed supplications (masnun du'as) or until one understands the supplication being made.
