Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would not raise his hands in any supplication, except when asking for rain. On that occasion, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would raise his hands so much that the whiteness of his armpits would become visible.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Apart from the prayer for rain, raising the hands while supplicating is established from the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. In this hadith, the intention of Sayyiduna Anas radi Allahu anhu is that the manner in which the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would raise his hands with great emphasis when asking for rain, he would not do so to that extent on other occasions.
