Hadith 559

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Tamam bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when people came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: "What is the reason that you have come to me in such a state that there is filth and yellowness visible on your teeth? Use the miswak. If there had not been a fear of hardship upon my ummah, I would have made the use of miswak obligatory like wudu."

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Imam San‘ani said: More than one hundred hadiths have been transmitted regarding the virtue of the miswak, yet it is greatly astonishing that despite such a large number of hadiths, a great many people—and even several jurists—have been negligent concerning it. Thus, this is a great loss. (Subul al-Salam: 1/41)
