Bilal bin Yahya bin Talha bin Ubaidullah narrates from his father, and he from his grandfather, that when the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) saw the new moon, he would recite this supplication: "O Allah! Let this moon rise upon us with prosperity and faith, and with safety and Islam. My Lord and your Lord is Allah." (O Allah! Cause it to rise upon us with good fortune and faith, and with safety and Islam. (O moon) My Lord and your Lord is Allah.)

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In reality, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam asked for felicity, faith, safety, and the continuity of Islam for the entire month, because in every month Allah Ta'ala, in accordance with His wisdom, decrees various decisions: some experience a decrease in sustenance, some an increase; some are tested with trials, some are granted means of happiness; some advance in evil, while others are granted goodness. Therefore, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam asked for security and safety for the entire month.
