Hadith 5564

عَنْ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا سَمِعَ الرَّعْدَ وَالصَّوَاعِقَ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ لَا تَقْتُلْنَا بِغَضَبِكَ وَلَا تُهْلِكْنَا بِعَذَابِكَ وَعَافِنَا قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would hear the sound of thunder and lightning, he would recite this supplication: "O Allah! Do not destroy us with Your wrath, and do not annihilate us with Your punishment, and grant us well-being before that."

Benefits: … The command of Allah, the Exalted, is: {ھُوَالَّذِیْ یُرِیْکُمُ الْبَرْقَ خَوْفًا وَّطَمَعًا وَّیُنْشِیُٔ السَّحَابَ الثِّقَالَ۔ وَیُسَبِّحُ الرَّعْدُ بِحَمْدِہٖ وَالْمَلٰٓئِکَۃُ مِنْ خِیْفَتِہٖ وَیُرْسِلُ الصَّوَاعِقَ فَیُصِیْبُ بِھَا مَنْ یَّشَآئُ} … He it is Who shows you the lightning, inspiring fear and hope, and He produces the heavy clouds. And the thunder glorifies Him with His praise, and (so do) the angels out of fear of Him. And He sends the thunderbolts, then strikes with them whom He wills. (Surah ar-Ra’d: 12, 13)
