It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever recites this supplication upon entering the marketplace: LAA ILAAHA ILLALLAHU WAHDAHU LAA SHAREEKA LAHU, LAHUL-MULKU WA LAHUL-HAMDU, BIYADIHIL-KHAIRU, YUHYEE WA YUMEETU, WA HUWA ‘ALAA KULLI SHAY’IN QADEER (There is no true deity except Allah, He is alone, He has no partner, sovereignty belongs to Him, all praise is for Him, in His hand is all good, He gives life and causes death, and He is powerful over everything), Allah Almighty will write for him one million good deeds, forgive one million of his sins, and build for him a house in Paradise.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In the narration of Jami‘ at-Tirmidhi, the wording of this supplication is as follows: “La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahu’l-mulku wa lahu’l-hamdu, yuhyi wa yumit, wa huwa hayyun la yamutu, biyadihi’l-khayr, wa huwa ‘ala kulli shay’in qadir.” Subhan Allah! Such a great reward and recompense—indeed, Allah Ta‘ala is the Owner of infinite treasures and distributes as He wills. The reason for the magnitude of this reward and recompense may also be that the marketplace is a place where people, being preoccupied with trade, buying and selling, seeking greater profit, and devising means to avoid loss, become heedless of Allah Ta‘ala and His remembrance. Furthermore, marketplaces have been declared the worst places on earth. However, the person who, despite all these matters, remembers the remembrance of Allah Ta‘ala will attain great reward and recompense.
