عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُعْجِبُهُ أَنْ يَدْعُوَ ثَلَاثًا وَيَسْتَغْفِرَ ثَلَاثًا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) that it was beloved to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to supplicate three times and to seek forgiveness three times.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … This action of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would occur at certain times; otherwise, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would also suffice with supplicating only once, and at times he would seek forgiveness multiple times.
