It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I was walking with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the garden of a man from among the people of Madinah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Abu Hurairah! The people with much wealth have perished, except for those who do such and such and such. Three times the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did this, illustrating by casting a handful to the right, a handful to the left, and a handful in front, and then said: But such wealthy people are few. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) walked a little and said: O Abu Hurairah! Shall I guide you to one of the treasures of Paradise? I said: Of course, O Messenger of Allah! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Recite this: LAA HAWLA WA LAA QUWWATA ILLA BILLAAH, WA LAA MALJAA’A MINALLAAHI ILLA ILAIH. (There is no power to avoid evil and no strength to do good except by Allah’s help, and there is no refuge from Allah except to Him.) Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) walked a little and said: O Abu Hurairah! Do you know what is the right of people upon Allah and the right of Allah upon people? I said: Allah and His Messenger know best. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah’s right upon people is that they worship Him and do not associate anything with Him, and when they do this, it is Allah’s right not to punish them.
