Hadith 5426

عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَقِّنُوا مَوْتَاكُمْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ
Narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Instruct those who are near death to say Lā ilāha illallāh.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: It is understood that those near death should be prompted (talqin) to say "La ilaha illallah." Among the general public, it has become widespread that one should sit near a dying person and recite the kalimah oneself, but should not prompt him, lest he refuse to accept the prompting.
