It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Israil (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered the mosque while Abu Israil was praying. Someone informed the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "O Messenger of Allah! This is Abu Israil; he does not sit, does not speak to people, does not come into the shade, and he also intends to fast." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He should sit down, speak to people, come into the shade, and complete his fast."

Brief Explanation
Benefits: ... Not sitting, not speaking with people, and not seeking shade are actions through which nearness to Allah Ta'ala cannot be attained. However, fasting (sawm) is the best means of attaining nearness to Allah Ta'ala; therefore, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam maintained it.
