Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) found two individuals who were tied to each other and walking towards the House of Allah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What is the reason for this rope?" They said: "We made a vow that we would walk to the House of Allah tied to each other." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is not a vow." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) cut the rope. In his narration, Sarij said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A vow is only that by which the pleasure of Allah Almighty is sought."
